Aragon and Castile made Spain. Ferdinand of Aragon was born on March 10th of 1452. He was born and raised in SOS,Aragon. John II of Aragon was Ferdinand’s father, and his mother was Juana Enquirez. He was also known as Ferdinand V. He died in 1516 at the age of sixty-four. Isabella of Castile was Ferdinand’s wife and also a monarch of Spain. She was born in 1451 in Madrigal de las Altas. She’s best known as the queen who supported Christopher Columbus, but she was also called Isabella I and Isabella the Catholic. When she was only three years old, her brother Alfonso was the expected heir. Isabella was raised by her mother, Isabella of Portugal until 1457. In July of 1468, Alfonso died of poison and Isabella of Castile was offered the crown by nobles. She was an exceptional woman because female rulers were a rarity. She died in 1504 when she was 53. Together, Ferdinand and Isabella did good things for Spain. They worked hard to limit the power of nobles. One of their main goals was to strengthen the Roman Catholic church. To do that, they forced all Jews out of spain if they would convert to the Roman Catholic religion. They established the Spanish Enquisition. Ferdinand and Isabella are best known for supporting the voyages of Christopher Columbus after rejecting his ideas more than three times. They were a very powerful couple!
